Artist Statement:

As a citizen I live in a fantasy-land, a desert known for artifice. An installed theater

of changing landscapes and a re invented skyline. A stage filled with performers

of skyscrapers, artificial cities, and islands shaped like the trees and the galaxy.

And beyond all the stage is built for imaginary viewers. I question what my land

is becoming. I question those dreams installed. I question what is left of this land.

An installation created on a wall as a 2D and 3D map of what's left of the land in Dubai, versus

the land that is been planned, constructed and taken apart by non existing figures.

Description:

“ Buildings rise” is a poem, a verbal narrative, a reflection about myself, which I depicted in a set of words. Those words were then taken and are expressed through a visual narrative. This narrative is conveyed through a series of panels in the form of a singular column of a poem. Those panels are broken down according to the sequence of the words, which are further juxtaposed visually with the use of imagery, typography and of paper as a channel that connects the panels as a whole. "

A leather case found in the pocket of a wandering charlatan, composed and distilled by an alchemist in the form of color. The colors represent my life, my soul, my skin, my eyes, my mind, my hairline, my garment, and my beauty. All to be gathered from my land as portrayed within the case to transform into my figure.

Artist statement

I the figure, I held time captive. In a depopulated background. In a preserved moment, a past, a memory, my comfort. I dislocated myself from a landscape, a land reconstructing itself in time. to gaze upon the change and question. What is becoming? Echoes reverberate, a juxtaposition of times, in a constructed barrier of my own. I stand nostalgic and held back.

A self portrait expressing the notion of dislocation from land. Composed in the form of two photographs in a constructed frame which holds an image printed and attached to a frame and placed in the landscape for the second photograph.
